Dear all,

I wanted to share a call for abstracts on citizen science in the fields of hydrology and/or natural hazards for EGU 2024 (deadline 10 January) that could interest those in the DSSAT community who are working on citizen or participatory science (apologies for cross-posting). Agricultural applications of citizen science are of course welcome in the context of “hydrology”!

Citizen science for hydrology and natural hazard management

EGU24, 14 – 19 April 2024

ITS3.1 3/HS12.5

Citizen science involves non-academics contributing to data collection or analysis. In hydrology and natural hazards, citizen science can provide high temporal and spatial resolution data and strengthen relationships between communities and academia.

In this context, this session aims to bring together scientists and practitioners working on citizen science tools in the fields of hydrology and natural hazards for use with concerned communities to share insights, challenges, and solutions.

General themes include:

  * increasing monitoring of natural hazards,

  * increasing community control over data,

  * facilitating community involvement in different projects,

  *   overcoming academia's bias against non-academic data,

  * addressing concerns about data biases and inaccuracies, and

  * using distributed database technologies to share and collect data in citizen science projects.
