University of Miami Special Collections
Invites you to: MAPPING a NEW WORLD

Join Arthur Dunkelman on a journey beginning in the late-15th century to see the how travels and voyages expanded the Western concept of the world, and maps evolved from Ptolemy to Mercator using materials from the Jay I. Kislak Collection of the Early Americas, Exploration, and Navigation held in the Special Collections of the University of Miami Libraries.

European feudal societies evolved into nation-states that built colonial empires in the Americas and beyond, aided by advances in astronomy, mathematics, navigation, natural history, the quickening pace of technology … and maps.
