          can you steer the new edition to Web access? collectively,
          map librarians should create their own (supplemental)
          cataloging desktop (at ucsb or ucsd, if need be). it
          should be international--our cost would be trivial compared
          to the collective/cumulative benefit of

When it comes to cataloging maps, it is essential to consult:
Cartographic materials: a manual of interpretation for AACR2. 1982. Chicago:ALA.
 
It's out of print but my library has a extra copy that we will send out on
interlibrary loan.  A second edition is being worked on but won't be out until
probably about 1997 or 1998.
