          i was unaware of the problems and have not worked with these
          fiche, although it was my suggestion that led to the
          program (it was better than nothing when nothing was all
          the agency could afford for the depository program).
 
          CUAC should probably develop a collective contingency plan
          so that on-line maps are on at least two independent
          servers, and the hardcopy originals are retained. the shift
          on microfilm should be to archivl retention copies of
          electronic maps/carto databases that otherwise never make it
          to hardcopy. these need not be stored at Regional

 When the GPO inspector was here May 19, I told her that GPO could save money by
  not bothering to fiche the NWI mylars. They are unusable as fiche and the cont
 ractor makes many mistakes in the label numbers, as well as that duplcicate pro
 blem that GPO announced. Now that the NWI quads are supposedly on INTERNET as t
 hey are available I thought that made sense. Hope nobody will kill me. Arlyn
