Queen's University Library invites applications for the position of Geospatial Data Librarian. This is a limited 12-month term appointment and is for the period of October 1 2014, to September 30, 2015.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Head, Academic Services Division the Geospatial Data Librarian is primarily responsible for identifying, developing, promoting, delivering and evaluating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and print cartographic information services. The Geospatial Data Librarian has primary responsibility for maintaining the Library's map and geospatial data collections, and delivering the Library's GIS service. The Librarian will work within the Academic Services Division (Data, Open Government, Scholarly Publishing, Learning Commons and Adaptive Technologies) and across all disciplines.

QUALIFICATIONS:
An ALA accredited MLIS or equivalent with a strong academic background in GIS, or closely related discipline; working knowledge of common GIS software tools and geospatial files. Demonstrated understanding of cartographic and geospatial resources and concepts. High degree of computer literacy; strong leadership qualities; energetic, flexible, creative, proactive approach to service; teaching ability; ability to work under pressure in a challenging and rapidly changing environment; ability to work effectively in both a team-based and self-directed environment; excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Librarians are members of the Queen's University Faculty Association and terms and conditions of work are governed by the collective agreement between the Association and the University. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
* Working with librarians across the Library system, participates in the design, development, delivery and evaluation of reference and information services for students and faculty, specializing in GIS and maps.
* Working with librarians across the Library system, faculty and students, contributes to the development of information literacy programs and leads in the design, development, delivery and evaluation of instruction specific to GIS and maps.
* Develops web-based resources to support programs and services.
* Develops, coordinates and manages geospatial collections. Selects new materials and resources. Investigates, recommends, and plans the provision of access to appropriate new electronic information resources, including the design, creation, and maintenance of collection-specific web pages to deliver information, software, metadata, and geospatial files to users.
* Maintains awareness of current trends in GIS, cartographic resources, higher education, research and scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities.
* Maintains awareness of current developments in reference/information services, information literacy and other areas of librarianship. Actively identifies best practices and shares information with colleagues.
* Collaborates with colleagues throughout Ontario and beyond and may act as principal contact on geospatial projects.
* Consults and collaborates with other staff across the Library system and promotes the vision of a team-based learning organization.
* Acts as liaison librarian for one or more disciplines including collection development, teaching and reference.
