A new CD of Canadian maps have arrived and a review of an interesting
book to be released by Harper Collins in July 2001.

Book title: "The Map that Changed the World" by Simon Winchester ISBN
0060193611  256 pages and 60 illustrations CAN $ 37.95 It is the story
of William Smith and the birth of modern geology. William Smith was the
19th century engineer in England who became obsessed with creating the
world's first geological map and ultimately became the father of modern
geology. In a neat use of the book dust jacket, it unfolds to reveal a
full-colour replica of Smiths geological map. (The original map was
published hand painted in 1815 and more that eight feet tall and six
feet wide)

Not quite as interesting perhaps but possibly useful to some Mapster's
is the following:
